According to Chinese medical theory, the face depends on nourishment by Qi and Blood coming from the internal organs to maintain its color and bloom. Any disturbance in the function of the internal organs may result in facial skin discoloration. Emotional disturbances, improper diet and lack of sleep over a long period of time can injure the organs and impair the functional activities of Qi.
Our Chinese herbal treatment for melasma is specially designed by Dr. Li for all types of melasma. This formula contains fourteen natural Chinese herbs. They work together to:
  • Soothe the Liver and regulate Qi to balance your hormones
  • Invigorate the Blood and improve circulation to reduce dark skin spots or patches
  • Support Spleen and enrich the Kidney to nourish skin and improve the complexion

How long do I need to take the Melasma Herbal medicine to see results?
Results may vary, depending on the individual. Most people begin to see some results within one month. It may take 2 to 3 months to see significant improvement. Using our Dermova Lightening Cream together with Melasma herbal medicine will produce a more effective result.

How to maintain skin health after it returns back to normal?
  1. Liberal use of sunscreen is important. Look for products that have SPF of 30 or higher and that protect the skin from two types of radiation: UVA and UVB.
  2. Let go of the tanning mentality. Wearing sunscreen doesn't mean more time to bask in the sun. Even with the best of sunscreens, you are still getting some sun damage.
  3. Stay out of direct sunlight from 10am to 3pm, when the sun's rays are strongest.
  4. Wear a wide-brimmed hat if you stay in the sun for a while. If you have very fair skin, you may want to consider special material with SPF of 30 that blocks out ultraviolet light. The best-known brand of sun-protective clothing is Solumbra.
  5. Be aware of other photosensitizers. A number of drugs like Retin-A (used for acne or winkles), antibiotics such as Tetracycline, and blood pressure and diabetes medications can render your skin more sensitive to sunlight. The most likely reaction is something resembling a sunburn or the development of melasma.
